Edgar Allan Poe, A Historical Writer Born in 1809, in Boston, Massachusetts His father left the family when was still a baby, leading him to be raised by his mother. Unfortunately, a very young Edgar lost his mother to an illness and was taken in by the upper class John Allan. But Poe was no friend of John-making his life really hard. Ultimately, because of this he went away to college.

Poe struggled with poverty and a difficult young adult life trying to work as a writer. He was not able to locate employment, therefore he serviced numerous papers Whenever he found himself with free time, all of his focus went into compiling stories and poems in the hopes they would eventually see a cover. A very important event in his life was, when he got married to a cousin Virginia. In 1839, he published his first book of Tales under the title of Firm and Arabesque.

    Unpacking the dark themes of Poe's writings

    Poe story's and poems were usually very dark, twisted stuff; which most people found interesting. An English writer, he mostly wrote about dark stuff-death and madness and unusual occurrences that could not easily be explained. His most popular poem is The Raven which speaks of a man conversing with an enigmatic bird, who came to him during the night hours. Poe set a lot of his stories in creepy locales such as old mansions and graveyards, even haunted castles since they all gave off an eerie aura.

    Poe wrote in a style that was his very own and nobody matched him. He sprinkled colorful, lively figurative language in spicy prose to give his writings impact and appeal. It was not uncommon for his writing to irritate or frighten readers; however, that made him more popular. His stories and poems are still read in schools by students all across the globe, which goes to show that he was right!
